Marinna, FL-- This weekend is homecomming weekend at Chipola and all alumni/former residents were welcome, but not as much as Jose Bauitista and Jeff Mathis.

The day started off with the Chipola Baseball team getting a 2-1 win over Walters State, which was then followed by a homerun derby between Team Bauitista and Team Dee's (which was captained by Mathis).

Though Bautista only spent one school year in Marianna, he explains why he loves coming back to the Panhandle,

"Coming back seeing some of those faces that I remember from when I use to go to school here. It's just a place I remember with a lot of good memories in my brain and in my heart. Everybody took care of me in a great way when I was here and I never forget where I come from so I always try and come back and see all those people that helped me out and also contribute to the community and to the baseball program to help them raise a little a money so these guys can do what I did when I was playing here and be out there and getting their school work done and playing as many games as they can."

Also of note, famous country singer Billy Dean threw out the ceremonial first pitch of the homerun derby.
