Salina, KS---The Gulf Coast Lady Commodores are off to a winning start in Salina and the Juco Women's National Chamionship.
Gulf Coast beating Midland out of Texas in their first round game Tuesday night 62-57.
The Lady Commodores, led by Tamara Taylor, who scored 27 on the night, built a 12 point lead by the half. They stretched that lead to as many as 14 in the second half, only to see Midland rally late and get it to within 5. That would be as close as they would get though.
Roshina Rosario, MarLisa Braxton and Jessica Morton all chipped in with 8 points each. The Lady Commodores hold on to win their first game at Nationals under first year coach Vernette Skeete. Now 28-4, they are into the quarterfinals Thursday afternoon, against the winner of Shelton State and Williston State, who played late Tuesday night.

In the second half, Gulf Coast holding the lead, and in fact after MarLisa Braxton's pull up jumper it was a 14 point lead.
Chelsey Rosier later with the jumper, and then it's Taylor backing in for two more after that. Gulf Coast has to hold off a late rally but they get the win 62-57, Taylor leads with 23. They are into the quarters and a 3 o'clock game Thursday.
