Panama City, FL---The Gulf Coast women's team is one of five area teams looking ahead to next week's state tournament at Chipola.
The best 8 women's teams in the state, the best 8 men's teams will converge on the Johnson Health center starting Wednesday.
The ladies play first, their quarterfinal games set for Wednesday.
For Gulf Coast, the champs of the Panhandle Conference, they will open at state in an afternoon game Wednesday against Santa Fe.
That means it will be more than a week and a half between last Saturday's win over Chipola and the opener at state.
"Well much needed for us." says G.C. head coach Vernette Skeete. "We have been, most of these kids have been here during the summer, during August, we work extremely hard. So we're grateful you're kind of thanking God kind of bowing down. We've had no major injuries once we got started. So it's good to kind of give the kids the chance to breathe and recover and say hey you know we're in a good spot. Let's just recover, let's just get better at this point."
As for the Lady Indians, they open Wednesday in a 6 o'clock game against Jacksonville, the Lady Raiders play at 8 against Palm Beach. The Northwest and Chipola men play their quarterfinal games next Thursday.
The state winners advance to nationals later in March.
