Springfield, FL---District softball champions were crowned in tournament finals all over the state Thursday night. The 5A-1 final saw history made by it's winner.
Mosley put five runs across in both the fifth and sixth innings, while also getting another stellar performance from their ace on the rubber, Katie Lopes. The senior struck out 13 Gulf Breeze batters in the Lady Dolphins 11-1 victory in six innings.
It's the first time in school history the green and orange have won a district softball championship and will host a game in the state championship.
"It just makes me happy," says senior pitcher Katie Lopes. "We've never done this before and being my senior year, we did it for the whole team. And so it's just a wonderful feeling."
"I like the way this team's going," says head coach Brian Wilke. "They're starting to pick up steam, starting to pick up momentum. We just want to keep it rolling right into the playoffs. Our fans at Mosley are going to support us there and being the first time we've had a playoff game there, they'll come out in force and I'm sure will be there with a great following as we always have."
The Lady Dolphins' opponent for their regional quarterfinal game is still to be determined. Suwannee and Wakulla were rained out of their regional final Thursday night and will play Saturday. The loser plays in Lynn Haven on Thursday at 7
In 4A, Marianna travels to Florida High Wednesday at 7.
1A rests till the regional semis Tuesday the 29th. That's where South Walton visits Jay, Chipley battles Port St. Joe, Sneads hosts Central, and Wewa goes to Ponce de Leon.
