Lady Indians Crush Palm Beach in State Quarterfinals

Ocala, FL----The Chipola women’s basketball team is into the juco state semifinals thanks to an dominating performance over Palm Beach Thursday, beating the Lady Panthers 63-38.

Greg Franklin's team, the champ of the Panhandle Conference, simply imposed its will on Palm Beach State in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Region VIII/FCSAA Women’s Basketball Tournament.

The Indians used outstanding defense on their way to a 63-38 win over the Panthers on Thursday night at Patriot Gym on the campus of the College of Central Florida.

Evelyn Akhator leading the way with 19 points and 7 rebounds, Tiffany Lewis added 13 points, and Rahni Bell knocked down 11.

For the game, the Indians forced 30 turnovers and scored 32 off those mistakes by the Panthers.

The Indians (29-1) limited the Panthers (24-7) to just four points over the final 12 minutes of the first half and took a 29-19 advantage into halftime.

Chipola held Palm Beach scoreless for a span of 8:46 and wiped out an early six-point deficit.

During the opening 20 minutes, the Indians forced 17 turnovers and scored 16 points off the miscues by the Panthers.

The Indians also made 5-of-10 from 3-point range prior to halftime and ended up 8-of-19 overall.

Chipola moving into the state semifinals and an 8:00 eastern game against the winner of Thursday night's late game between Florida State of Jacksonville and Indian River.
