Salina, KS---The Lady Raiders of Northwest Florida are headed to the national quarterfinals.
Coach Patrick Harrington and his team beating Walters State out of Tennessee in their round two game in Salina Wednesday 65-60.
Northwest built as much as a 7 point lead in the first half, only to see that lead cut to just three by halftime at 33-30.
The two teams traded the lead back and forth through much of the second half, until a spurt by Northwest with about 2 and a half minutes to play gave them a 6 point lead. They hold on from there hitting enough free throws to secure the 5 point win.
Now 26-4 Northwest moves on to a quarterfinal game Thursday at 7 pm against 34-1 Hutchinson, Kansas, pretty much the home team in that tournament.
The attached video shows the following:
Northwest in red, getting the nice spin move and bucket from Tavarsha Scott, 7 point lead.
Then off the break, ahead to Jatoria Carter who goes baseline and hits the jumper, led by 9 at that point, but that lead just three at the half.
Second half, Lady Raiders fall behind, big moment here, feed outside to Kiana Parker who hits the three.
Later just a one point lead, inside to Carla Batchelor, then off the steal Parker finishes, and Northwest, the 11th seed, knocks off the 6th seed, 65-60. Parker leads with 15.
