Salina, KS---The Lady Raiders of Northwest Florida suffer a serious heartbreak in their national quarterfinal Thursday night, falling to Hutchinson 73-71.
The back and forth game came down to some free throws. Northwest Florida's Carla Batchelor had the chance to put her team ahead from the line with the game tied at 71 and just ten seconds remaining, but she missed both free throws.
The Lady Blue Dragons then took the ball down and worked it underneath to Jamie Patrick who tried to lay it in, her shot missed but she was fouled, giving her two shots from the stripe with just two seconds to play. Patrick made both free throws.
The ensuring inbounds was picked off at midcourt and the game was over, 73-71 Hutchinson. That eliminated Northwest Florida and left them with a final record of 26-5.
Tavarsha Scott had 23 in the losing effort for Northwest, Liuna Luvola added 19.
