Liberty Wins 1A State Softball Championship

Vero Beach, FL---A first visit to the State Finals has turned into a 1A State Softball Championship. Liberty beating Lafayette Thursday morning 3-0 in the title game at the Vero Beach Sports Village.

Before this season the Liberty softball program had never made it to the state finals.

Like many small public school programs in this region, the Lady Bulldogs benefiting in recent years due to the reworking of the 1A class, which basically put them on a level playing field with those they compete against for state titles.

The result this year, a region title, then a win Wednesday in the 1A state semi's in Vero Beach, and Thursday, their first ever
State Championship game!

That coming against Lafayette in an 11 am game at the Vero Beach Sports Village.

The Lady Bulldogs score two in the bottom of the second and another in the third, the rbi coming from Koree Guthrie, Chelsea Gowan and Leslie Williams.

All that backing up 7 shutout innings by Kayla Johnson, who gave up just 2 hits with 6 strikeouts. Congratulations to the Liberty softball team winning it's first ever state title!
