Springfield, FL---It is quite the opportunity for a dozen high school football players in our area.
Thanks to the NFL's High School Player Development Program, those twelve, along with coaches Alvin Dempsey and Jason Griffin, are getting an all expense paid trip later this week to Cleveland Ohio to compete in a 7 on 7 tournament.
These types of 7 on 7 events are no contact, and hone players passing, receiving and coverage skills.
The group of players consisting of several Rutherford players, along with a few from Bay and Bozeman. The local team one of several headed to Ohio to compete this week, the competition set for the Cleveland Browns practice facility.
We visited the group as it worked out Monday at Rutherford and we spoke with coach Dempsey about how all this came about.
"Well this group of young men, they all attended the High School Player Development program that the NFL put on for us, it was a camp, about two weeks ago. And the end result of that camp as that 12 players and two coaches from each site, of the 32 teams in the NFL will go to Cleveland Ohio and play in the national 7 on 7 Tournament. We are representing the south region, we're representing the Jacksonville Jaguars. So we're on of the 32 teams to go and play in this national tournament in Cleveland Ohio.
These guys heads north Thursday, the competition begins Friday. We'll go much more in depth with this story Wednesday night at 6 so watch for that.
