Local Sailors Up To 3rd At World Championship

Ballyholme, Northern Ireland---Tuesday was a rather good day of sailing for the local team of Taylor Reiss and Matthew Whitehead at the F18 World Sailing Championship off the coast of Northern Ireland.

Reiss and Whitehead moving up four spots in day two and are now in 3rd place out of the 57 teams competing for that title at the Ballyholme Yacht Club.

That's through five races. The local team, with the #14 hull number, with five top ten finishes, including a first place finish in the second race of the day today, the third overall.

So adding up all their finishes they total out at 35 points. A team from the Netherlands leads with just 24 points, two first place finishes for that team.

A team from Australia in second with 34 points, so Reiss and Whitehead just a point behind the second place team, 11 out of first.

The local duo representing representing the St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club where they grew up sailing. Reiss a Rutherford alum, Whitehead went to Mosley. Two more races Wednesday, 8 more total through Friday.
