Local Teams Take Part in Gulf Coast Team Hoops Camp

Panama City, FL---The middle of June is pretty far removed from the high school basketball season. That doesn't mean though prep players aren't working hard during the summer to hone their skills!

Case in point, a three day hoops team camp hosted by Jay Powell and the Gulf Coast program.

18 teams in all taking part, many of them from our area, like Bay and Rutherford, that's Bay in red.

Josh Wade scoring for the Rams underneath, then it's #20 for Bay responding, The Rams eventually winning this match up.

One court over, Mosley taking on Vernon, the 'fins Brian Poulter with the drive and bucket.

Then back to the far court, South Walton taking on a team out of Georgia. First it's Ty Brunson scoring for the Seahawks, then it's Kedarius Bryant scoring. South Walton winning that game.

Five teams coming from Georgia, and three from Alabama, so a really nice mix for all the teams to get some different competition. Still though, coach Powell started all this some six years ago with the local teams at the forefront.

"The mission's still, I care a lot about the local high school programs. And making sure that they know that Gulf Coast and myself we care about them and want them to do well. So this is just a way that we can give back a little bit and help them grow their programs."

Wednesday night at 6 Greg will go much more in depth with all this, hear from the coaches as to just how valuable summer competition is!
