PANAMA CITY, Fla- The Panama City Dream ABA basketball team is looking for a few good men to help start the franchise. The team's goal is to give the area some quality entertainment all while giving players a chance to continue to play.
Coach and Team Owner A.J. Stallworth is ready to start the ABA franchise here in Bay County, and he needs to 12 guys to get it going.
Owner and coach A.J. Stallworth said. "Basically I'm looking for 12 of the best guys I can find, and I'm going to do what I have to do in order to weed out the others."
Stallworth is a veteran of college, and the professional ranks, playing basketball in Europe and with the Harlem Globetrotters.
He wants to give other men a chance to play ball at the semi-pro level. "People coming out of college that didn't get that chance to put themselves out there, and to promote themselves to go on to bigger and better things," Stallworth added.
This opportunity doesn't come around everyday, and these guys know that.
Georgia native Michael Hammonds said, "Means alot to me. My goal is to play professional overseas. So hopefully I'll play ABA first as minor league and then go from there."
Players from Georgia, Alabama, and Florida are trying to make the team.
Former Bay County players like Brandon Troupe who played for Bay High School, and Michael Vogler who played at Bay, Chipola, and Troy are trying to make the most of the opportunity.
"I think right now this is a great opportunity to get back and regain what we once had to succeed in life. Some of us have families, some of us have full-tiume jobs, but I think we're going to take this opportunity and take it to the max," Troupe said.
The Dream is also looking for Dance Team members for the game. The team plans to hold another tryout later this month. Check our website for the date and place once they make that official. Also we have a link to their official team website there for you below.
