Auburn, AL---So the folks at Auburn have their next head coach in place, and from the reaction online, well it's a choice that's getting mixed reviews!
Gus Malzahn formally introduced late Tuesday night as the successor to Gene Chizik, who was let go after a 3-9 season, 0-8 in the SEC.
Certainly plenty of enthusiasm in that room for Malzahn, who comes south after one year with Arkansas State, in which is team went 9-3
¶and won the Sun Belt title.
Many Auburn fans hoping he can restore the Tigers offense to it's high scoring ways, as it was when he called the plays for three seasons. Certainly that's one of Malzahn's promises coming in!
"We will have a fast paced offense." says Malzahn. "I believe in this day and time it's a great advantage. We will run the ball and that will be our staple. We're a run, play-action team. We will have a defense that is attacking. These days, all these spread offenses and the things that you do, you've got to have a multiple defense. And we will be attacking in all areas. And it will be fun for our fans, and we will get this thing turned around."
Auburn legend Bo Jackson, who was standing by Malzahn there, and was on the committee to select the new coach, says Auburn fans have to be patient with Gus. As Bo puts it, Malzahn's "facing an empty lot" and must build the program from the ground up.
