Marianna Opens with 42-20 Win at Cottondale

Cottondale, FL--The 2012 High School football season is now under way for two area teams. Marianna and Cottondale gathering at the latter's field Thursday night, with the Bulldogs coming away with a 42-20 win, giving Tim Cokely a victory in his debut as Marianna's new head coach.

The teams exchanged early touchdowns, Marianna scoring on a one yard run by Jac Wooden. That was two plays after Marianna recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff.

Cottondale answered with a 23 yard scoring strike from qb CJ Smith to Jacquez Walker, and after the point after failed it was 7-6 Bulldogs.

Teon Long cashed in later in the first with a 19 yard touchdown run down the sideline, giving Marianna a 14-6 lead.

The next Marianna drive would showcase quarterback Derrick Knowles who rattled off some long runs 37 yards then 46 yards.
That set up another Jac Wooden touchdown run, making it 21-6.

Knowles, who had a 122 yards in the first half alone, scores later on a 15 yard run, it was 28-8 at the half, Marianna on the way
¶to a 42-20 win. It's a victorious debut for coach Cokely and the Bulldogs.
