Marianna, FL---It's unusual for two basketball teams to face each other four times in a season, but that's exactly what the Marianna and Catholic boy's teams are headed for Tuesday.
Those two will meet at Catholic Tuesday night in their 4A region semifinal game, their 4th meeting on the court this season. The first two were in the regular season, won by Marianna.
Their third meeting was in the 4A-1 district final, won by Catholic.
Both teams then went into the playoffs, winning their first round games. The Bulldogs going on the road and beating Godby Thursday 59-51.
That has them heading west Tuesday to face Catholic in round two. of the playoffs, Catholic getting to host this playoff game on the basis of winning the district title.
"The last game didn't come out like we wanted to, against Catholic." Marianna head coach Travis Blanton told me Monday night. "But Catholic is a very good basketball team. And I've said the whole time that you could take both teams, put them in a sack, pull one out and you can win with either one of them. But we've worked real hard over the weekend, watching film. Trying to prepare the kids mentally and also today physically on the day off, at practice trying to get them ready for what we've gonna see at Catholic. Which is going to be a tough environment, a tough team, a very well coached team."
The Bulldogs take a 25-2 record west with them into that game. We'll have the highlights of it for you tomorrow night in our late news after NBC's Olympics coverage.
