Marlins Set to Open Christmas Classic

Panama City Beach, FL---We are now into the part of the holiday break between Christmas and New Year's. For scores of area high school basketball players, that means it's tourney time.

Several area schools like Vernon, Chipley, Bay and Arnold are hosting holiday basketball tournaments.

At Arnold it's the 2012 Marlin Christmas Classic which has 16 teams total coming in to play over the next three days. First year Arnold coach Robert Britton tells us what is ahead for that event.

"Yes we have 8 girl's teams and 8 guy's teams from the surrounding, Kentucky, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia area. We host a lot of different teams all the way from Kentucky, we've got some good basketball here and it's not only for the kids to put on their skills but it's also for our community to have some tourism and some excitement during the offseason."

A skills competition part of the festivities Wednesday. The tournament games for that and all area tournaments begin Thursday.

Most of the action runs through Saturday night with their respective title games. We'll show you highlights of some of the tourney games in the coming nights.
