Mathis Comes Home to Marianna for Chipola Baseball Alumni Weekend

Marianna, FL---Saturday over at Chipola College, the baseball team celebrated it's annual Alumni Weekend. While this gave former Indians a chance to return to their campus, there was one member participating who never attended the school but still has strong ties to the Marianna community.

Miami Marlins catcher and Bulldogs legend Jeff Mathis came back to his hometown, as he's become an honorary member of the Indians baseball team over the years. The MLB veteran and former Angel and Blue Jay says he's been coming to all, if not most of the Alumni events throughout the seven years the program's run them.

For Mathis, he always relishes a chance to return to the place he grew up and see the people and community so special to him.

"It's always good to be back home," said Marthis. "See some faces you haven't seen for eight months in the time we're gone. So you know there's a little bit of that and I enjoy every minute of it. It's good to see all the folks around here and appreciate their support and keeping up and that part of it. So it's good to be back."
