Marianna, FL---It's still not official, apparently the teams are waiting for everyone to pass their physicals, but Marianna alum Jeff Mathis seems headed back to his home state.

Mathis is part of a blockbuster 12 player trade in the works between the Blue Jays and Marlins. Miami wanting to send Reyes, Josh Johnson and Mark Buerhle among others to Canada in return for Mathis, Yunel Escobar, Henderson Alvarez and 4 prospects.

Jeff's coming off a season in which he was the Jays backup catcher, hit 218 with 8 homers and 27 ribbies in 70 games.

I spoke Wednesday with Jeff's brother Jake and he says Jeff's hunting in Illinois through the weekend, adding Jeff is aware of the trade and working on getting to South Florida for his physical.

Jake says Jeff is excited with the prospect of coming back to the Sunshine State, to be able to play closer to family and friends.
