Tournament may help local economy

More than 2,000 visitors are expected to visit Marianna for the Florida Junior College Men's and Women's State Basketball Tournament and that's boosting the local economy.

Chipola College officials announced today tickets are now on sale. The Jackson County Tourist Development Council awarded a $10,000 grant to the Chipola Appreciation Club to help promote the tournament.

This will be the 15th year Chipola hosts it. The games will take place march 2nd through the 5th. Eight men’s basketball teams and eight women's including coaches and fans are expected to attend.

"The town will be packed it's going to be great for the economy and the community," said Jake Headrick.

Tournament passes will be sold for adults at $25 a piece and students at $15. Single session tickets will be sold for $10.
