Des Moines, IA---It's been a few weeks of serious change for Mosley alum Jaye Chapman. Jaye, drafted by the Atlanta Braves back in the summer of 2006, traded recently from the Braves organization to the Cubs organization.
That part of the deal that sent Dempster to Atlanta. Before the trade a couple of weeks ago, Jaye had pitched all season for Atlanta's Triple-A team in Gwinnett, where he was 3-6 with a 3-52 e-r-a as part of the G-Braves bullpen.
I asked Jaye how he heard about the trade, and if he feels like moving to the Cubs might mean a quicker trip to the parent club.
"I found out about the trade when I was eating dinner with my buddies and my manager called me, told me he needed to see me right away, so I kind of figured something was up." says Chapman. "I was really excited. I didn't know what to think at first, I had been with the Braves since oh-6, but then uh, I was excited. They told me that the Cubs really wanted me, so that's exciting. I don't really know, the Cubs really haven't said anything about their plans for me in the big leagues, or wherever. But I really think they'll give me a shot to help them win in the big leagues, which is ultimately what I want. I would love to do it with the Braves, but I would also love to do it with the Cubs."
Jaye signed by Atlanta which drafted him in the 16th round of the 2006 Draft. He's now pitching in the bullpen for the Iowa Cubs, the team's Triple-A affiliate in Des Moines. It would be neat to see him get a September call up!
