Panama City Beach, FL --- Saturday night, the best of the best swimmers in Northwest Florida competed against each other in the Panama City Beach Invitational in the Final heats.
First up in the highlights shown above, it's the Boys 100 yard Freestyle, where Bay's Dylan Mock had the best time in the prelims, earning lane 4. Mock going into the 2nd turn, looked good in the lead. But as they finish, check lane six two above. Judson Robertson of Niceville and Mock touch at the same time, 49.66 seconds exactly. What a finish!
Next up in the video is the Girls 100 Butterfly., where Lincoln's Sydney Simpson held lane four as the favorite, for good reason. She motors past the field like it's nothing, taking first place for the event in ease.
Then came the race everyone was talking about. The main event of the meet.. Mosley star Jonathan Ratliff going for the Boys 100 Butterfly. But it wouldn't come easy, not with Washington's Steffen Mount opposing him. At the midway point, Mount even has a slight lead on Ratliff. In the final push, Ratliff hits the wall three-tenths of a second faster and in the process sets a new county record for the event.
Afterwards, Ratliff raved about how the competition helps with states approaching.
"It's really great. If you think about it, it's stressful conditions. We have a really long prelims session, and then an hour nap. And then you go back to the finals. So, you're really preparing yourself for the States seriously when you go prelims and finals. You really get high quality racing at night."
