Niceville, FL---The folks in Niceville are gearing up for a rather serious business trip. That trip begins Thursday morning in fact for the Niceville Eagles football team.
Coach John Hicks preparing to take his team south to Orlando for Friday's 7A State Championship game against Dwyer.
That certainly will be a clash of titans, the Eagles head into that game 13-1, averaging 40 points a game.
Dwyer with even better numbers, a perfect 14-0, averaging 42 points a game.
"Offensively they are really explosive." Niceville head coach John Hicks told us. "They've got a quarterback that really spreads the ball around to a lot of different receivers and running backs. Does a good job, a really strong arm. Doesn't run a lot but he's got a lot of other people that can. Defensively really talented in the secondary and pretty good up front."
Those who've followed Niceville football for a few years certainly remember Dwyer as the team that beat Niceville in the 2009 5-A championship game.
Matt Elam, a star at Florida who's now in the NFL, and FSU star tight end Nick O'Leary part of that Dwyer team.
Coach Hicks is confident history though, has nothing to do with this Friday's game!
"They're a different team and we're a different team. So the matchups are very different than from the first time. And we hope we have a different result. But you know we're, again we're not doing anything much different. We're trying to be as methodical, in all, in our approach, as we always are."
Hicks and the Eagles will head out around 9 Thursday morning, stop for a workout in Gainesville, then finish the trip into Orlando.
The game set for 7 eastern at the Citrus Bowl!
