The Northwest Florida State men's basketball team is off to a good start as it continues to work through the shock of losing head coach Bruce Stewart, who's battling a brain tumor. The Raiders opened Monday night with an 85-48 win over Gordon College in Georgia.
The Raiders as you probably know, heading into this season under new coach Joe Richardson, who's filling in for veteran coach Bruce Stewart, who's battling a brain tumor. That's dealing with distraction, what's more, it's a rather young bunch of Raiders looking to carry on the tradition there!

Joe Richardson
NWF State Head Coach

"Last year you got some sophomores, Bryan Bryant, Toby Veal, Sherrod Brantley and Brandon Crawford, those guys have been around the game. Brandon Crawford and Toby they played division one ball before These guys on this team, we have 9 freshman and three sophomores so it's a totally different team and we've got to try and build that mentality that we need."

Again, a good start for the young crew, five players in double figures Monday night. Raiders, men and women, open at home Friday and Saturday in the Quality Inn Classic.
