WASHINGTON (AP) -- Erving Walker scored 16 points to lead four Gators in double figures, and No. 18 Florida regained some footing Sunday with a 67-48 victory over American in the opening game of the BB&T Classic.
The Gators (6-2) took the lead for good midway through the first half as they bounced back from Wednesday's lackluster loss to Central Florida, a defeat that has Florida in danger of dropping from the The Associated Press poll after being ranked ninth in preseason.
Vernon Macklin, returning to the court where he played for two seasons with Georgetown before transferring to Florida, added 12 points. Alex Tyus scored 14 points, and Chandler Parsons had 13 points and eight rebounds.
