PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Nick Watney birdied his first two holes and Graeme McDowell joined him atop the leaderboard Saturday at The Players Championship on a short day of work at Sawgrass.

Thunderstorms that packed wind so strong that a few pines toppled caused a 4 1/2-hour delay.

David Toms, the 36-hole leader who had to wait until dinner time to tee off, only made it through five holes before the third round was suspended by darkness. He made five pars and remained at 10-under par.

Watney also played in the last group and was at 11 under with McDowell, who picked up three birdies in the early going.

The winner will have to endure a long day Sunday to earn the richest prize in tournament golf.
