North Bay Haven Sees It's First Ever Athletic Scholarship

Panama City, FL---Call David Smith a trailblazer! David is North Bay Haven's quarterback, and Wednesday he became the first student from that school to sign an athletic scholarship.

David signed a Letter of Intent Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama.

Smith helping the team win it's first few varsity games this past season, accounting for 16 td.'s, passing and rushing.
He is, his coach says, the perfect pacesetter for other kids to follow.

"First year varsity program, he's been our quarterback for the last three years." says Bay Haven head coach Jared Hale. "And it couldn't happen to a better person, because he's an awesome guy. Always has a smile on his face, always positive. And he's worked his butt off to get to this point, and it couldn't happen to a better person."

As for Smith, he's accepting of the title of pacesetter.

"A lot of the other student athletes have come up to me and are asking questions and I try to offer as much advice as I can. I'm still learning as we go. I tell them as long as they work hard, anything's possible."

Smith also praised his family, the faculty and staff, his coaches and teammates at North Bay Haven for making that scholarship a reality.
