Niceville, FL--Wednesday certainly a big night on the campus of Northwest Florida State College in Niceville. The school officially christening it's new on campus basketball facility, called simply the Arena. It replaces the old gym which opened in 1972 and served it's teams rather well.
The new venue seats 22-hundred, has a state of the art scoreboard and locker rooms. It comes at a cost of 31 million dollars, and the building by the way also houses the Okaloosa County E-O-C.
Not long after the ribbon cutting ceremony, it was time to dribble the ball for the very first game, the Lady Raiders opening conference play against Penscola, the top ranked team in the nation.
Joanna Harden the first bucket for the home team in the new building. Then it's inside to Tierra Prothro, and the Lady Raiders own a 9 point halftime lead. Pensacola though not ranked first for nothing, they rally in the second half and get a narrow win 65-63, so they hand the Lady Raiders just their second loss of the season.
