PANAMA CITY BEACH, FL- It was a big day for the Panama City Beach Pirates franchise at Gavlak Stadium Sunday. The team opened its 2012 home schedule with a big win, and they did it in front of a nice crowd.
The pirates on the pitch in Panama City Beach for the first time as the beach Pirates. The Panama City Pirates closed shop a couple of years ago, but this time new ownership is hoping to keep the semi-pro Premier Development League team in Bay County for good.
The crowd for the first home game was a welcome sight for ownership and the players. The team didn't disappoint either, putting in two goals against Bradenton, including a spectacular header off a corner kick to excite the crowd.
All in all a great start to the season for the pirates.
Team Owner, Dr. Eehab Kenawy said, "We're excited because the crowd here is excited. We think this will be a great success this time around. We appreciate all the support. This is our first home game ever as the new owners of the Panama City Beach Pirates, and these guys are doing great. We have a great coaching staff and a great set of players."
The Pirates return to the field Friday June 1st at 7 p.m. against Ft. Lauderdale.
