Panama City, FL---Former Gulf Coast softball head coach Susan Painter is now facing grand theft charges related to allegations she took money from her own student athletes.

After investigating charges from G.C. students the college claims she asked 20 students to pay $300 apiece for travel to a tourney in Las Vegas this year. The college had already covered the entire cost of that travel.

It's alleged she also asked some student athletes to pay her rent, even though their scholarships covered that too.

The school turned all that over to the Sheriff's Office which leveled the grand theft charge.

Painter turned herself in late Thursday night, and this afternoon was released on her own recognizance. She'll be arraigned July 8th. If found guilty, it's likely Painter will avoid jail time and wind up on probation.
