Port St. Joe, FL---Like Wewahitchka, Port St. Joe is in search mode for a new head football coach an athletic director.
Newschannel 7 Sports has learned the Sharks may go back to the future for their man. We've learned former St. Joe head coach John Palmer is the leading candidate for the job.
While not confirming that, Gulf County Superintendent Jim Norton does acknowledge that coach Palmer has been working to get close to the St. Joe program, and his knowledge and record of success there make him a logical choice.
Norton is quick to point out no hire can even be recommended to the board until after the official advertising period ends January 17th. He adds no hire can be made without Board approval.
Chuck Gannon, who's led Port St. Joe to a 15-7 mark the last two seasons in his second stint as head coach there, is in the final year of his DROP. So he is out at the end of this year.
Mr. Norton says the new St. Joe coach, whoever it might be, will be in place by the time spring football begins May first.
