Panama City Beach angler hauls in 117 pound Amberjack

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla- A local fisherman shows that the Gulf has plenty of big fish to catch. Chris Silas caught a 117 pound Amberjack Wednesday on board the "I'm Just Say'n," with J.D. Prine, and first mate Mike Green.

It took Silas 45 minutes to reel in the big fish, and they weighed it in at the Light house marina in Panama City Beach. It's not the state record which is listed at 142 pounds, still it's a big one.

He should have let the fish go to save the genetics for reproduction. That fish was probably 50 years old at that size. What a shame to keep it, and irresponsible of the charter captain, who really should have known better, but he wanted to show the fish on shore so he could get more bookings. What a screwed up system.

I do so love when people who don't know what they are talking about express their "expert" opinion in public. Better to keep one's mouth shut than to open it and remove all doubt. Just Say'n.
