Panthers Head to Lakeland

Greensboro, FL--The West Gadsden boy's basketball team is spending Monday night in Lakeland, with an early wake up call set for Tuesday morning.

The Panthers face Chipley in a 10 a.m. eastern time tip at the Lakeland Center Tuesday, the winner advancing to the 1A state championship game.

Coach Andrew Moten and his Panthers loading up the bus and heading south at midday Monday. This is the program's first ever trip to state, and no doubt it's well earned.

The Panthers with a 26-2 record this season, they are the champs of district four. Last week they rattled off big wins over Cottondale and Graceville to earn the state semifinal berth.

Tuesday it's a game against the Chipley Tigers, who are 24-3 and riding a 22 game winning streak. Coach Moten talks about that match up.

"We gotta keep playing the way we've been playing. I've seen Chipley maybe five or six times. So we've done our homework on 'em. They're a very good team, well coached, disciplined. We just gotta go out playing West Gadsden basketball, play good defense."

As for the Tigers, well coach Orlando and his guys bussed it to central Florida yesterday. Both these teams looking for their first state titles in boy's hoops.
