Port St. Joe, FL---Several area teams are working to prepare for what's next in terms of them making it to their respective classes' state title game. Port St. Joe is one of those.
Coach Derek Kurnitsky and his Sharks have a rather daunting task in their first round game, or 1A region semifinal Tuesday.
That is, go to Chipley and take on perhaps the best 1A team in the region, if the regular season is any indication, the Tigers are 20-2.
And they must do it after some ten days between the district final and this playoff game.
"Yeah this different because we've been out of the playoffs the last couple years" says coach Kurnitsky "and since they've changed to this new format, I'm not used to it, it's a little different. I've actually had to call coaches in the area who have been with this format, just kind of pick their brain a little bit about you know what to do, when to push, when not to push."
Coach K adds "It's kind of good that we have football players, it's almost that football mentality where you have to wait a week. So you know it's kind of good having some football players because they're kind of used to it, you only play football once a week."
Other 1A games Tuesday, Cottondale at Malone, Paxton at Sneads, and Northview at West Gadsden.
