Port St. Joe, Wewa Coaches Stepping Down

On Christmas morning, families and friends opened presents that they had long asked for. And while Santa's back at North Pole now, Port St Joe and Wewa football fans have a late gift request... new football coaches.

In a report from the Port St. Joe Star, Shark's head coach Chuck Gannon and Gator's head coach Dennis Kizziah will both be stepping down due to the Deferred Retirement Option Program.

Gannon is in is in his fifth and final year of DROP and cannot return to hold a paid position.

In two seasons with the Sharks, he led the team to a 15-7 record, a first place district finish this season, and an appearance in the 1A Regional Finals.

Kizziah, who is 12-19 in three season at Wewa, has stated he will step down, but is only in his forth DROP year, so can stay on to help ease the transition when the Gulf County School Board makes a hire.

Superintendant of schools Jim Norton hopes to make a hire for the Sharks in time for spring football's start and one at Wewa ready to begin this summer.
