Panama City Beach, FL---When you give everything you have all your life to make your dream come true, what do you do the day after? Former Port St. Joe star, now first round draft pick of the New York Jets, Calvin Pryor, spent it mostly in the airport.
It was a near twelve hour battle to get back from the Big Apple after being at Radio City Music Hall in NYC for the first round Thursday night.
After a stop in Atlanta and multiple missed flights, Pryor finally returned home Friday night around 11:15 PM central , proudly representing his new squad, wearing the same Jets hat he was drafted in.
A whirlwind of a trip, but Pryor comes back home with a new team and lifelong memories.
"It's been overwhelming for the most part but it's been exciting," said Pryor. "I finally get to know where I'm going. Now I get to focus on football. It's gonna be fun. I'm gonna have a lot of memories in New York. Hopefully it can be my home for the next several years, the next decade or so. It's a wonderful feeling. Words can't really describe the moment that I shared with my parents and my daughter and my two sisters. They were all there to just share that moment with me. That's something I'll never forget."
As Pryor sat in the green room of Radio City Music Hall, it was Gang Green giving him the call to welcome him to the National Football League. As for what the call from the team was like?
"It was good. You're sitting there, you never know when you're time is gonna come. And then you hear that phone ring and everyone else around the table just gets quiet. Then you answer the phone. You get a chance to talk to the GM, the coach, and the owner and they just let you know they're gonna draft you and welcome to the Jets. It's an awesome feeling. That's when the emotions really start to spill out at you"
Pryor is back home in Port St. Joe for just a few days before he heads back to his new home in NYC on Monday to begin rookie prep with the Jets.
