Port St. Joe football

Football on the 1-A level and it's a showdown game between Blountstown and St. Joe Friday night in the latter's park. The Sharks began the season with games against 3-A teams like Bay and Rutherford, then lost to still undefeated Liberty. It would have been easy for St. Joe to throw in the towel.
Instead, they've won two straight district games over Franklin and West Gadsden, and now at 2-1 in district, head into Friday still very much in the state playoff picture.

Vern Barth
Port St. Joe Head Coach

"It's always tough when you start out oh and four, with the adversity. You know I think the kids were smart enough to realize these were several good teams that we played early. you know I kept telling them hang on, hang on, keep playing hard and maybe we'll play for the second half of the season and hopefully things will go our way."

And they have the past few weeks. Barth says his star tailback and defensive back Calvin Pryor's really stepped up his game and the others are following suit.
