Raiders Win Opener at Nationals

Hutchinson, KS---The Northwest Florida Raiders are off to a good start at the Men's Juco National Championship Tournament in Kansas.

Coach Forbes and company getting an 81-54 win over USC-Salkahatchie Monday, despite playing without star guard Chris Jones, who had to sit out this game because of his ejection in the state semifinal loss earlier this month.

Elgin Cook picking up the slack big time as he scores 25, Arthur Edwards chips in with 14.

The victory sends Northwest now 27-3, into a second round game Tuesday against 27-6 New Mexico, that game set to tip at 4:30 central.

The Raiders, in white facing South Carolina-Salkahatchie, and jumping out to the early lead, first the follow bucket off the missed three pointer.

Then after the offensive rebound the Raiders running the floor, ahead to Michael Chandler who hits from the baseline, a 17-3 start for Northwest.

A bit later it's a nice kickout to Lamin Fulton who hits for three, the Raiders up 26-16 at the half.

Second half they would get the offense into 5th gear, Elgin Cook connects from beyond the arc, and then it's a block on the defensive end, and a transition dunk for Arthur Edwards.
