Springfield, FL---Gulf Coast hoops coach Jay Powell adding Tuesday to his roster today by hauling in a Rutherford product.
Khaliel Spearman signing a scholarship offer with the Commodores at the Spiva Rams House Tuesday afternoon.
Spearman a 6'2" shooting guard, scored over 15-hundred points as a four year letterman. He averaged 20 points per in his senior season, helping coach Ross and company make it all the way to the 5A state semifinals. Khaliel says he's ready to take that next step and try to prove himself in the tough Panhandle Conference.
"I'm looking forward to getting there, you know what I'm saying. That's the toughest conference but hard work and dedication will get you anywhere. So as long as you are hard working and persistent in it then you'll get there. And I'll make sure they'll know my name in the Panhandle Conference."
Rutherford head coach says he's certainly going to miss Spearman's talents, and his leadership. Ross says Khaliel guided a team that was supposed to in a rebuilding mode, to the 5A state semifinals. Ross is also excited about being able to continue to watch Spearman develop on a regular basis, since he'll be just down the street at Gulf Coast.
"He's gonna have the opportunity to get bigger and stronger." says Ross. "He's gonna have to adjust to the speed of the game. You know the Panhandle Conference is one of the best conference's in the country. If you can survive in the Panhandle Conference you're probably gonna play division one basketball afterwards."
