Rams Beat Mosley 2-1, Claim District Title

Panama City, FL---The Rutherford Rams are the champs of 5A district 1 thanks to a thrilling 2-1 win over the Mosley Dolphins in the title game at Bay Thursday night.

The Rams win taking them to 21-4 on the season, and allows them to begin the state playoffs at home. The Dolphins falling to 24-3, and as district runner up will have to hit the road to start the playoffs.

This is the first time the Rams have beaten Mosley in three tries this season, and it gives Rutherford back to back district titles.

Both teams began the game with some sloppy play. Rutherford scored in the top of the first after Mosley starter Weston Bizzle hit Jacquez Koonce. Koonce then stole second, got to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a wild pitch.

Rutherford starter Heath Holmes struggled, in fact he faced just three hitters, walking two, and allowing the third to reach on his throwing error. Mosley then tied the score when Connor Green singled with the bases loaded.

Rutherford's Tyler Broxson though came on to prevent any more damage and he settled in nicely, keeping Mosley off the board for the next 3 innings.

The Rams would take the lead in the top of the 5th when Koonce got on with a bunt single, then moved to second and then third on two more wild pitches. Koonce scored on Nick Nelson's high bouncer over third for an rbi single.

That turned out to be the game winner as Nelson came out to squash a 6th inning Mosley rally. Nelson then ended it by striking out the side in the 7th.

-Top of the first, Jacquez Koonce draws a walk and then steals second. A sac bunt moves him to third and Koonce scores on a wild pitch by Weston Bizzle, it's 1-0 Rams.

-Rutherford starter Heath Holmes struggles with a throwing error and two walks, Tyler Broxson comes on and gives up an rbi single here to Connor Green, Bell scores to tie it, but Broxson would end the inning without further damage.

-Bizzle settles down, gets some help from the defense, first and third for Leno who bounces to first, Sean Maddux comes home and cuts the runner down in the third.

-Broxson meanwhile in control, gets the strikout to end the bottom half of the third.

-Still tied at one into the 5th, Koonce bunts his way on, two wild pitches gets him to third and he scores on Nick Nelson's single to left. That turns out to be the game-winner. Nelson comes on to
¶get a 6 out save, Rams win 2-1. They're district champs, will start the playoffs at home.
