Panama City, FL--- Saturday night was the definition of madness in high school hoops , as teams battled for district championships, home court advantage in the first round of the state playoffs, and some serious pride.
At Bay High School, Rutherford faced off with Choctaw after the Indians upset Bay Friday night. The Rams were looking to avoid a similar fate.
In the highlights attached above, Gabe Steele refused to be stopped by the Indians defense all night long as he converts the lay up. That puts the top seed up five.
Then, Steele gets credited for the assist when he dishes to Chris Foster as he gets the friendly bounce to drop. That puts Rutherford up 7.
Before the end of that half, it's Steele in the open court again driving to the bucket. The lead wa sup to nine just before the half.
But from the beginning of the third, Choctaw refused to give in. Jaquiel Lawton hits a three that cuts it to seven.
Then Jaylen Nelson frees up space on the pump fake and knocks down the mid range jumper.
But Steele and the Rams were simply too much to handle. He drives on the break once again and gets the basket and the foul. Number 11 led Rutherford with 19 points as they take it 63-46. They'll host Wakulla next. Choctaw will travel to Tallahassee to face Rickards.
