Panama City Beach, FL---The Rutherford Rams head into next week's Panama City Invitational, which they will host, on a winning note thanks to a 9-0 win at Arnold Friday. A win that came with a combined no-hitter from Nick Nelson and Cody Roby.
Nelson started the game and went five innings with 7 strikeouts. Roby finished up the final two hitless innings with two more strikeouts.
Nelson also added a solo homer in the top of the 5th inning. That part of a strong offensive attack that saw Herron get a two rbi double in the third, and Dondrell Harris with an rbi single in the 4th.
The win gives the Rams an overall record of 7-4, they are now 4-1 in 5A district 1 play.
The 8 team PC Invitational gets going Monday at Shamplain, Rutherford's home diamond. Arnold and Mosley also taking part, as well as Leon and Florida from Tallahassee, two teams from Alabama and one from Tennessee.
The attached video shows the following:
Rams up 1-0 and gunning for more top of the second, two on for Kendall Herron who strokes the double down the line in left, it rolls to the fence, in comes Chatman, in comes Bailey, 3-0 Rutherford.
Bottom half of that inning, Nick Nelson, looking rather menacing with the extra helping of eye-black...gets the called third strike on the big breaking ball.
Top 4, Rams add to the lead, first and second two outs, Dondrell Harris singles up the middle, Herron scores easily and then Dondrayas Harris scores from first when the ball's kicked around in center.
Plenty for Nelson who strikes out 7 in five, he and Cody Roby in fact go on to combine for a no-hitter.
