Springfield, FL---The Rutherford Rams kicked it around a little too much and wound up losing their game Wednesday to Thompson, out of Alabaster Alabama, 10-9 in 10 innings.
The Rams began the game with a 2-0 lead in the first, but two very costly errors led to 5 Thompson runs in the top of the second.
Rutherford countered with 4 more in the bottom of that inning to retake the lead. The two would eventually be tied at 9 after 7, and it was Thompson getting a run in the 10th to win it. That prevents Rutherford from making it to the P.C. Invitational it is hosting. Mosley, with a win over Gardendale, another team out of Alabama, finished bracket play 3-0 and will face Thompson in that title game Thursday night at 6.
The attached video shows the following:
The Rams with two in the first but giving some runs back here in the top of the second, bases full, one out, Kendall Herron lets a potential inning ending double play get past him, it rolls to the fence, all three base runners score, it's a 3-2 Thompson lead.
Now first and third, still just out, a line single to center, Dondrayas Harris fails to get in front it, it skips past him, again to the fence, two more runs come in, it's 5-3.
Thompson bidding to extend the lead, a line shot to left Tyler Broxton catches it and fires a strike to the plate, Zach Davis applies the tag, nightmare inning over.
Rams come back with a two out rally in the bottom half, a walk forces in one run then Tyler Chatman with the sinking liner to left, that goes to the fence, Dondrell, Davis and Nelson all race in, Nelson should have been out but the catcher can't hold on to the ball, it's 6-5 Rams.
Rams though unable to hold the lead, they fall in ten innings, 10-9, the loss keeps them out the tomorrow's tourney final, Thompson is in.
