Springfield, FL---High school hoops fans in our area have gotten used to Rutherford making good postseason runs. However there will not be such a run this February. The Rams fell out of the state playoffs in the first round, losing on the home floor Thursday night to Suwannee 77-74.
The Bulldogs started strong with a 13-6 run led by the likes of Jimmie Taylor III who led all scores with 28, and Kevarrious Hayes who chipped in 17. They eventually built a 40-21 lead by halftime.
The Rams roared back in the third and fourth quarters, cutting that deficit to just two at one point. Then at the end, Kiki Williamson, who led Rutherford with 24 on the night, missed a three pointer at the end that would have tied it. The Rams got the rebound off that miss, but lost the ball trying to kick it back out for another shot.
So Rutherford sees a very good season come to a startling end at 25-4.
The attached video shows the following:
Suwannee in green, taking the early initiative, Jimmie Taylor drives and scores.
Then later he drives again but this time dishes to Kevarrious Hayes who flushes it one handed.
Then it's Hayes getting his defender in the air, and going under for the bucket and one. 7 point first quarter lead for the Bulldogs.
Rams looking to rally, their leader, Kiki Williamson, first he connects for three.
Then scores after taking the defensive rebound, running the floor and connecting on the jumper.
Suwannee though kept coming Hayes, first on the miss, he rebounds and puts it back, then scores again on the drive, 40-21 Bulldogs at the half, the Rams rallied big time in the second half, but they come up 3 points short, Williamson missing a three at the end to try and tie it.
