Rutherford Advances in Winners Bracket of Grand Slam Tourney

Springfield, FL--Just because it's summer time that doesn't mean area prep baseball players aren't working to improve their game.

In fact many area players are taking part in this week's Grand Slam World Series, which has games being played at several area diamonds.

That includes the Rutherford Rams, who are now a perfect three and oh in the 18 U class following a win Wednesday night over the P.C. Stars, another local squad made up of area high schoolers.

That PC Stars squad, coached by a travel ball coach, in fact had some of Hudson's Rams on it, those players choosing to play for the Stars instead of the school team.

So an odd dynamic for Hudson, as his team, made up of many of his younger school team players, beat the stars 8-1.

"It was a fun game," says coach Hudson "fun for me, fun for the kids. There was a little bragging rights going on there, a little talking before the game. It was exciting for them. They had a good time with it, but I think they know after this game it's all over with and we're all teammates again."

Hudson's Rutherford squad playing another winner's bracket game against a team from Cincinnati Thursday night at Shamplain, with that start pushed back by weather a bit to around 7 o'clock.
