Panama City, FL---We're certainly used to seeing the the Rutherford basketball team win a lot during the winter. The Rams are pretty good when it comes to summer hoops as well.
Case in point this week's three day team hoops camp at Gulf Coast. The Rams playing their way into the tournament finale Wednesday afternoon, facing Gainesville Georgia.
In the highlights attached above, in the first half, Marquis Steele drives to the lane for the floater to put the Rams up four. The game was tied at the break.
Yet in the second half, Destin Dunton breaks that tie with a drive to the hoop, getting the reverse to drop.
The hometown guys close the game out on a 24-10 run, thanks to plays like Gabe Steele knocking down three in transition.
The Rams go on to win 45-31 in a good showing by coach Ross' squad. The coach telling us he's thrilled to be a part of an event like this, given the chance to play so many games in a short time frame, and not having to spend big bucks to do it.
"Playing here at Gulf Coast, you get to play in your own backyard as apposed to going to Florida or FSU," says Ross. "The kids paretns get to come and watch them play, so they really have a lot of fun with it. If we go to FSU, we spend probably $1,500 there. If we go to Florida, we're probably spending close to two grand. So staying here in our own back yard helps."
