Rutherford and Troy alum Kevin Pettis takes the reigns as Crestview's new football coach and A.D.

Crestview, FL--To prep football news and the new coach and athletic director at Crestview High School. Kevin Pettis officially introduced Tuesday at a press conference at the school. Kevin Pettis hired at Crestview Pettis an 87 graduate of Rutherford and played for and graduated from Troy. He's had 3 prep head coaching jobs, one in Columbus Georgia, then at Dr. Phillips in Orlando and most recently with Deland, where in oh-9 he led that program to the 6-A state title game. Overall his record 86-39. Principal Ed Coleman says Pettis was chosen from 123 applicants, he simply stood out as a successful coach with a track record of turning programs around, who is also a local boy. Pettis told me today first and foremost, he's coming back home in a sense, he still has family in Panama City.
He also loves coaching small town schools, where the school is the same name as the city or the county. That means everyone's involved.
Another plus, his son Trey is a big time offensive line recruit who's just enrolled at Florida State and will play for the 'noles, and he wanted to be close for that experience. Pettis takes over for Matt Brunson who left to take the job at Baker, his alma mater. Crestview 7-4 last season so the cupboard certainly not bare.
