Springfield, FL-- We start on the prep basketball level and another look ahead to the start of the state playoffs, with some 13 teams in the area gearing up to play Thursday night. The Rutherford Rams are among those teams. Coach Ross' team now 22-3 coming off the district title win Saturday night over Godby. That has them hosting their 4-A region quarterfinal against Pensacola. The Tigers an odd story, just 4-18 in the regular season, but they beat Choctaw. in the district tourney semi's, then took Washington to overtime, losing by just one in the title game. So they come east toting an ugly, but perhaps deceiving 5-19 mark.

Rhondie Ross
Rutherford Head Coach

"They have a great football program over there and a lot of those guys don't really get their basketball legs until early to mid January. So they're playing really good basketball, they're a physical and athletic team. Quite frankly we have our hands....our work cut out for us on Thursday."

Tony Mixon
Rutherford Guard

"He's told us they're a bunch of football players so they play real physical, real big under the basket so we need to be sure we box out, play good in the low post, make sure we get rebounds and just get out and run."

The Rams flush with playoff experience, 7 players on this year's team part of that run to the state semi's last year. That game Thursday night set for 7.
