SPRINGFIELD, Fla- There's a local addition to the future of Gulf Coast baseball after Rutherford senior Dakota Spikes signed a scholarship offer with the school Wednesday.

Rutherford senior Dakota Spikes signed a scholarship offer with Coach Mike Kandler and the Commodores at Rutherford's Champlain Complex . Spikes is a pitcher and shortstop with the Rams, he's expected to pitch and play some infield at Gulf Coast.
As a junior Spikes pitched 62 innings with 72 strikes and an era of 2.01. He says he's happy he's staying in Bay County to go to school, and play baseball.

"It's very exciting! I can stay at home," Spikes said. "Parents, Grandparents, friends, family can come out. I can enjoy, and go to school here for free. Just very excited about going to Gulf Coast next year."

Spikes and the Rams will start the 2011 baseball season in Mid-February.
