Rutherford takes it to penalty kicks against visiting Wakulla in their district soccer final.

Springfield, FL--We begin on the prep soccer field, as several area teams went out looking to kick their way to district titles Friday night. Count the Lady Rams of Rutherford among them, they hosted their 4-A two tournament, got a win in the semi over Godby a few nights ago, which put them into the final tonight against Godby. To Shamplain we go, Rutherford in yellow, almost giving up an early goal, the keeper comes out, the shot taken, looks like it might have gone in, but it's wide, and rolls past the goal. Later it's Rutherford on the attack, free kick by Bryanna Butler, header by J.J. Johnson, but not enough on it, that gets cleared. Scoreless into the half, second half now, Wakulla with the ball in the corner, the shot taken, but it hits the corner. Rams keeper Carly Grant with a shutout for 80 minutes of regulation, two ten minute overtimes, they go to penalty kicks, Wakulla wins out 4-2, so Rutherford settles for the district runnerup spot. They'll open the playoffs on the road Thursday.
