Springfield, FL--Thursday night it was all about the start of the boy's basketball state playoffs. A host of area teams making it this far as a district champ or runnerup. The champs get the luxury of hosting at the very least, that opening playoff game. Count Rutherford among that group, the 22-3 Rams hosting 5-19 Pensacola Thursday.
Home team with a great start, first it's Tony Mixon outside for three, follow that up with Jai Jencks underneath, bucket and one, Rams begin with a 14-2 run.
But PHS fights back, Darnell Crenshaw with the hot hand from the outside, hits for three, a 14-3 Tigers run, and it's a one point game.
John Wade refusing to let his team trail at the half, makes the nice looking jumper 29-25 Rams at the break.
Second half though Crenshaw hits five more three pointers, including this one here which puts Pensacola up 46-45 in the 4th.
Rams stand tall, Kieran Williamson gets the steal, takes it down, feeds Wade who scores...
So it's 60-57 ten seconds to go, Tigers with the chance for the tie, the shot is off, and eventually Wade winds up with the ball, he'd ice it with two free throws, 62-57 Rams win, Wade with 27, Rutherford moves on and will host Washington Tuesday in the region semi's.
